I knew that I needed to be in healthcare at 8 years old when I saw the treatment my uncle received after being diagnosed with AIDS. He was treated with fear and no compassion; and died with little dignity. I promised myself then that I would do what I could to make it different for others. Since then I have dedicated my career focusing on the impact of policies and processes that lead to better patient care. However after working in healthcare for over 20 years, I received the biggest gut punch; I was fired on the same day that I was going to ask for a promotion. After that experience, I understood that it was time for a shift! I started my company and again I made a promise to myself to find a way to impact patient care but also focusing on the aspects of the work that brings me joy daily. Now I work with multiple healthcare organizations nationwide helping them get better at delivering services and care and I work with physicians focusing on the soft leadership skills that they are often not taught but expected to know. I am also a speaker who believes in sharing my vulnerabilities and my personal story as way to inspire and reinvigorate others.
